Grace Empowers My Soul/G.E.M.S. is a program
designed for girls grades K-6. The bible says, “For it is by grace you have been
saved, through faith – and it is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God –
not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8) Our prayer is that the
girls and their families are drawn into a relationship with Jesus Christ though
his grace. “This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to
all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of
the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption
that came by Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3:22-24)
Our name was selected because we believe that
all our girls and leaders are daughters of the King, princesses, and little
G.E.M.S. We are focusing on what it is to be a gem and are all striving to be
virtuous women… Our theme verse is Proverbs 31:10, “Who can find a virtuous
woman, for her price is far above rubies.”
This year we will be having regular Bible story
lessons, with many review sessions. We emphasize Bible verse memorization.
Deuteronomy 11:18 says, “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie
them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.” Each girl will
be sent home with a laminated Bible verse once a month. This is their “Bath-time
Bible verse.” They are encouraged to suction cup them in the shower at home so
the whole family can see it and memorize it. Girls who memorize their verses
earn points to spend at our G.E.M.S. store.
We meet on Wednesday evenings from October 4th
through May 16th, meeting from 7:00 PM – 8:45 PM. Girls are asked to bring $1 a
week to contribute towards craft supplies. Weekly meetings open with all the
girls together learning Bible stories, singing, prayer and games. Once a month
the girls all remain together for a special event like our Western night in
November and our Valentines Party in February. The other evening’s classes then
break up into Pre K – 1st grade (Diamonds); 2nd – 3rd grade (Sapphires); & 4th
-5th grades (Pearls.) In our smaller classrooms we have our weekly Bible lesson
as well as games, crafts, and on occasion special guests. Last year the Golden
Calf has paid us a visit. You never know who might show up at G.E.M.S. We hope
you do!
